Elise Donaville Cook, MD, MS

Dr. Elise CookElise Cook, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Cancer Prevention at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. She provides cancer surveillance, diagnosis, and preventive care at the institution’s Cancer Prevention Center.

She earned her medical degree from University of California, San Francisco, her M.S. from Purdue University, and B.S. from Jackson State University, both in computer science. Her internship was in general surgery with a residency in family medicine, both at UTMB-Galveston.

She is currently the PI for the MD Anderson site for EMPaCT: Phase II, a national consortium to enhance minority participation in clinical trials. She is one of the tri-chairs of the Health Disparities Committee for NRG Oncology, having previously served as prevention chair of the NSABP Diversity and Special Populations Working Group. She is also the current Chair of the newly formed Recruitment and Retention Core for SWOG. She previously chaired the very successfully Minority and Medically Underserved Subcommittee for the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (SELECT) while acting as PI at the M.D. Anderson SELECT site.

She has worked with minority populations on the national, regional and local levels. Her research interests include minority and overall recruitment to clinical trials, cancer prevention trials, and survivorship trials. She has published on minority recruitment and presented minority recruitment strategies at national meetings. Locally, she served as president of the Houston Unit of the American Cancer Society and routinely gives cancer health related presentations for local Houston area community organizations.
